How To Use Range Meal Bars?
After doing business for six years, we’ve seen and heard it all (or so we think)! Here is a short list of the most common uses for our ultralight meal bars.
Thru Hiking
Range meal bars having become a popular backpacking meal on the PCT and AT trails, in addition to weekend warriors.
Athletes and Weightlifting
For serious athletes, what you eat in the kitchen is even more important than what you lift in the gym. Range meal bars are an ideal meal replacement bar for athletes that need a convenient high calorie food for attaining a caloric surplus, with healthy all natural ingredients. If you find yourself asking how to bulk for hard gainers, there’s a good chance that Range meal bars are an ideal solution.
Military and First Responders
The MRE is commonplace in the military, and has graced us with many nicknames such as “meals resisting exit,” and “meals requiring enemas.” Range Meal Bars have become popular with US Special Forces and soldiers seeking a high calorie food strenuous military training. Likewise, first responders appreciate the convenience of having a high quality meal on-the-go available for when a shift is particularly hectic, and the alternative would be a greasy burger from the golden arches.
Hunters
Few things are as mentally and physically challenging as hunting. If you’ve ever spent long days moving through difficult terrain, while minimizing sound and odor, you’ve probably found nutrition to be a challenge. Range is one of the best foods for hunting.
Mountaineering Food
Mountaineering is full of logistical challenges. Equipment, timing, navigation, weather. Everything must be as light as possible, and durable. Furthermore, few things burn as many calories as maintaining body temperature in cold environments, and those cold environments will also make most typical meals a frozen brick. Range meal bars are a durable, cost effective and ultralight food for mountaineering. Additionally, the natural oil content (primarily from nut butters) helps them to not freeze solid like other bars, allowing for a quick and convenient meal without needing to fire up a stove, or lose a tooth.

I needed a higher calorie option so I can gain weight while weightlifting and biking to work. The mint chocolate option doesn’t give me heartburn like CLIF bars do, and they taste great! I just wish they were a smidge cheaper so I could order them more often! I was very happy with my purchase.

I have tried the other two Range Meal Bar flavors and although all are great, this new mint chocolate chip one is the best.
Matthew Swenson (verified owner) –
My new #1 choice of flavors. I’m not sure if any major changes were made to the base recipe, in addition to flavor-specific ingredients (e.g., mint); but if so, I’d encourage incorporating these changes into other flavors. Great job!

IMO “Molasses, Ginger, Sea Salt” is so very tasty. Then there is the “Chocolate & Peanut Butter”, so very, very tasty, yuou can’t go wrong. Now “Mint Chocolate Chip”. Okay Range, you out did yourslef, It is a must try for all and a great addttion to the Range Meal Bar family. “Mint Chocolate Chip” is my new favorite Meal Bar for sure. All Range Meal Bar flavors are good and tatsy. Keep up the work Range!

The Mint Chocolate Chip for me was like eating dessert and felt reassured at how healthy it was. Tough Part was… I wanted to consume it all in one sitting. Thank you for creating this New Flavor Range Bar. Just Brilliant! FYI- I’m a fan of the original flavors too and like snacking on a bar throughout a busy day. Grateful you came up with Range Bars.

My son is a competitive swimmer and needs calories. This is why we bought these bars. He likes the mint ones the best.
Matthew Schmauk (verified owner) –
My favorite meal bar.

Bough these for convenient, high calorie meals while in the bush for when I didn’t want the hassle of boiling water and the cleanup after eating freeze dried meals. I actually feel more satisfied after eating the Range Bar AND they provide more calories than the typical freeze dried pouch for sustainment! My order was received quickly. I bought 6 of each flavor and find them all very tasty and filling. The bars do not alter my usual regularity in anyway, cause any stomach gas, or discomfort. They are packaged in durable wrapping that holds up well to being crammed into small spaces and pouches while on my “adventures”.

This new flavor may even top the original two.The taste is impressive and everything a lover of both mint and chocolate could ask for. Sustained energy and delicious
My only caveat precluding a “5” is that the mint flavor may be almost too strong, (If such a thing is truly possible.) It leaves an aftertaste for more than a little while after you have finished the bar.
Perhaps tone it down just a touch in future formulations?

I love to keep these bars around for when I need to skip my usual breakfast! The mint chocolate flavor is delicious and I will purchase more when I run out of these!
Wallace Pearson (verified owner) –
Love the other two Range Bar flavors, but mint chocolate chip is my new fave. I found it especially effective later in the afternoon, and at altitude when caffeine isn’t necessarily needed. And the mint flavor… always a great compliment to chocolate, it makes the tummy happy. There’s a reason restaurants give you mints on the way out the door.
Grateful for the great taste, and sustain energy during a big day!

These bars worked great during our latest backpack trip. We had some long milage days on the trail and didn’t want to be loaded down with snacks to stay energized. These bars had the best weight to calorie ratio and eating them when we had limited water didn’t turn into a gut bomb. Would highly recommend keeping a couple on had.

I’m on a calorie surplus bc ima skinny guy and im trying to gain weight. 700 cals bars are great to get them extra cals. Love the ingredients lots of organic stuff. Mint chocolate is alright. My fav are the coffee choc peanut butter with my coffee in the AM. All and all a good buy to help people that struggle with eating enough.

I have tried all 3 flavors and they are all great. They are great to take on extended hikes and do well in the Central FL heat. Thanks for providing a healthy and easy meal while on the trail!
Carolyn Werner (verified owner) –
The flavor is great although they do tend to fall apart more easily than the other flavored bars

Just enjoyed the new flavor of Range Meal Bar while on a 2,000ft mt. bike climb. I love that these bars are filling, flavorful without being rich, and easy to throw in a hip pack.
John Clarke (verified owner) –
I used these bars at the Philmont Scout backing adventure in New Mexico. They kept me fueled and were easy to digest, expectations met. In a couple of the bars I noticed plastic wrap logged in the bar. I picked it out and was fine but this is a big strike on quality control.
Brian Brickey –
The bars are very dry. I could not put it down without water. I do get a hint of mint but the chocolate chip was more of a protein chocolate chalk flavor. Sorry but I was not satisfied especially since they are pricey and my expectations are high. I did not have any stomach issues afterwards which was good since I have a sensitive stomach. My teenagers took a bite and they did not like them as well.
Michael McGreevy (verified owner) –
I am tempted to eat these on a regular basis, but I intentionally reserve them for hikes and bike rides— it’s a motivator to get outside more.
April G (verified owner) –
That’s really all I can say about these, if you can swallow them you won’t starve. Have a lot of water with you to choke them down.
Greg (verified owner) –
Why wouldn’t you carry these in your pack.
Doug Engle (verified owner) –
I purchased one of each flavor.
I’m sorry if I’m to enthusiastic, but these bars are amazing.
These pack 700 calories of nutrition with good flavor and stomach filling.
Yes, I recommend these to friends!!

Bars taste great and digest well.
J Fort (verified owner) –
On long runs, hikes, climbs, these are exactly what I need. 700 kcal, high carb, good amount of protein. Great taste. One bar takes the place of me having to pack four different snacks. Just bought another box.
Michael Sullivan (verified owner) –
There excellent, I start my morning with one, I wish you had a couple of other flavors
Jeremy Neff (verified owner) –
These bars are great for getting a lot of nutrition on the go and without meal preparation. I’ll be looking to order again.

Meal Bar – Mint Chocolate Chip – Six Pack
John Neiswanger (verified owner) –
I have tried all three flavours of these bars and love them all (but the Chocolate Chip the most) I wish these had been around when I was Backpacking, the light weight, convenience and delicious taste would have been great – l certainly will keep these on hand…

I bought four of these for a July overnight backpacking trip and ate one for lunch on day one. They really are filling, so much so that I skipped dinner that evening. Part of that skipping dinner was also due to exhaustion since we climbed so much in very humid heat. All I wanted to do was drink water. When I got back I weighed the remaining three bars and found that they averaged 5.83 ounces each. So, I recommend them to light packers, but be prepared for their weight.

Section hiked the PCT (J) last week and needed to find something I could eat with decent calories. I have a nut allergy so I’m limited. I was super stoked to find these and they were fantastic. They taste great, loaded with calories, decent weight, and I didn’t die eating them (win, win for me). Would recommend them to anyone, but definitely my fellow nut allergy folks.

Finished a 10 day backcountry goat hunt in Alaska. I ate these bars for breakfast every morning and had to force myself to eat around lunchtime even though I had likely burned around 2000 calories by that time with the elevation gain and pack weight I was carrying. As soon as I got back I ordered more for my next trip. For all the backcountry hunters out there, If you want to try a stoveless trip I highly recommend these bars.

Could you guys try to make a recipe that has no nuts, whey or eggs within the bar? Im glad to be able to have something that has enough protein and calories for the day, but if there is any other flavors other than mint chip, i would love to try. But i have allergies so i cannot do anything with treenuts, egg, shellfish, or whey. I saw the molasses one, and saw almonds. Could you make one without?
